This Friday's COUCH Topic...

We are having another Couch Night this Friday. Amber and Kaitlyn are leading the talk!!!! So go ahead and put your 2 cents in - and we will see where we go...

We have all dealt with conflicts with either parents, teachers, or other adults that we feel intimidated by and/or scared to discuss things with. So here is the question for this weeks COUCH...

How do we as teens express our opinions to adults (teachers/parents/leaders)?

-frustrations and fears concerning this topic

-and how we as christians can respect our elders even if we do not agree with them

Black and White Christian Morality

Cloths
Where do you draw the line with how you dress?
Sally is at the mall and she is looking for a skirt for church. Her options are between a tight short skirt a knee length skirt. Sally is keeping in mind that the guy she likes will be at church this Sunday.

Language
You stub your toe and it hurts like a mother what do you say? It is ok to draw the odd F bomb or swearword when you’re mad?

Physical boundaries
Your have some alone time with your significant other, and things start to get heated up at a rapid pace. Where do you draw the line with your physical boundaries, how do you stop, and how do you build accountability towards each other.

Why are things that used to be black and white, gray today?

DREAM BIG

Dreaming Big!

Hi Everyone!!!! I miss you all so much! Thailand has kept me on my toes this January and February. For the past few weeks I have been in the South teaching English on Koh Phi Phi island. God continues to do amazing things here and teach me so much. Lately God has been challenging me to dream Big with the passions He has put on my heart. I encourage you to dream big 'cause all things are possible with Him!
~ Matthew 19:26

An Amazing Sight...

One morning on Koh Phi Phi I walked out of the school and saw a huge cloud of smoke rising not too far away. I asked what it was and the teacher told me it was probably coming from a local store but it was nothing to worry about. We didn't realize how bad it was until we reached the scene. Smoke covered the entire area and at least 6 buildings were burning down. But what saw was amazing... Hundreds of Thai people and tourists worked side by side putting the fire out. People took their place in line as they hauled up buckets of water from the sea to the burning buildings. I had never seen anything like it... So many people from around the world united together for one cause. Everyone felt connected. It gave me a glimpse of what the family of God looks like in action.

When the fire was out a huge applause arose from everyone. Six stores burnt down on the tiny island with four families losing their homes. Later I found out that it was the same day (Sunday) at the same time (11:00am) that the Tsunami had hit the island 2 years before. This event brought back painful memories yet I hoped to share with them God's comfort in times of hardship.

PRAYER:

1. Please pray for the people on Koh Phi Phi island who have lost their businesses and homes. I will be going back to the island in a few weeks. Please pray that I will be able continue to build friendships there and bless the people.

2. My family is coming in less than 2 weeks to visit! Please pray that we would have a great time and that we would be a light to the Thai people as we travel and do some ministry.

3. Please pray for more of God in my life, for health and for wisdom.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and support. I would love to hear how you are doing and what is happening in your life. Remember to Dream Big!

God bless you so much,
Love and prayers,
Melissa

Couch Discussion Blog...

Just imagine life is going on as usual - then suddenly everything changes - a loved one is diagnosed with a disease that is life threatening. How do you react to this? What thoughts come to mind? Do you place blame on something or someone?

Or imagine your group of close friends rejects you - leaving you abandoned, wanting nothing to do with you for no apparent reason. How you deal with that pain? How do you deal with pain and suffering in general?

In life we experience pain, through our experiences or through the experiences of those close to us. We want to discuss the reasons of why Pain happens, how we deal with it, and where God fits in to the whole mess.

So write your thoughts and let us know what YOU think !!!!
