Couch Discussion Blog...

Just imagine life is going on as usual - then suddenly everything changes - a loved one is diagnosed with a disease that is life threatening. How do you react to this? What thoughts come to mind? Do you place blame on something or someone?

Or imagine your group of close friends rejects you - leaving you abandoned, wanting nothing to do with you for no apparent reason. How you deal with that pain? How do you deal with pain and suffering in general?

In life we experience pain, through our experiences or through the experiences of those close to us. We want to discuss the reasons of why Pain happens, how we deal with it, and where God fits in to the whole mess.

So write your thoughts and let us know what YOU think !!!!

I think pain is inevitable -- it's part of life, and it's a part of that "take, break, bless, give" cycle we all go through - yes, I still refer to that!
Nobody really WANTS to deal with pain. You just try to ignore it, and I definitely know about that. My homework is not the only thing I procrastinate in doing.
Eventually you gotta suck it up and realize you need God to help you. You can't make it through on your own, no matter how hard you try. I think that's another reason why we experience pain, because God wants to see if we really will turn to Him and give Him everything. We say we will, but will we really when it comes down to it, when we're at our lowest and just want to shut everyone out? That's when he wants us to turn to Him

DUN DUNANANAAAAAA I'm done

Thanks for your comments guys. I am also intersted in any comments on the reasons for pain. We know it can be used by God to bring growth in our lives but does that mean God sets up painful situations for our growth or do things just happen in life?

to dream puff's question...

I don't have much of an answer for. To be honest, I really don't think all pain is there for growth. Like I mean, I may be speaking out of ignorance, but the stuff that goes on around isn't TOO bad... like struggling with friends, school, grades, breakups, whatever else... but what about like even bigger stuff? What if someone's mom was brutally killed in a car accident, or if some other loved one died? I doubt very many of us will go and be like "hey, God's doing this so you can grow." I'm sure people do grow out of those experiences... but to think that's all there is to it... I think that conflicts with my idea of a loving God.

I don't see why God would take away a loved one of ours just to "test" us either, but I definitely don't think that that doesn't make him a living God. Sometimes we can't understand why God has done something, or why certain things happen, but God does, and that should be good enough for us, even though it can be hard to accept. God always has a plan through and through, even if we can't see the final result right away, or even if the happiness doesn't come long after the situation. But nobody has better timing than God, and as much as we'd like to control most things in our life, we just can't.
